Doubledeckers (Duofacium caeruleus)
The doubledeckers are land-dwelling, bipedal, social animals that inhabit the grasslands immediately on the other side of the portal to Earth. Much like meerkats or apes, the doubledeckers live in large colonies centred around a matriarch. Their natural blue colouring provides excellent camouflage against the vegetation of the monster world. Should a predator appear, however, the doubledeckers’ natural speed and agility allows them to escape quickly into their underground nests, the tunnels of which extend for miles underground. The doubledeckers are omnivorous, in as much as they will attempt to eat pretty much any inanimate object in their vicinity. Their digestive systems are incredibly robust – they can apparently consume metal cans and other human rubbish without any ill effects.
As doubledeckers age they grow more purple in colour and develop extra heads, growing taller like a totem pole. This perhaps allows them to act as a natural look-out tower on the plains and spot danger from further away. The extra faces do not appear to correspond to extra brain power. Doubledeckers are naturally inquisitive, charming and boisterous.
